Lyophilization is the technical term for freeze-drying. The words are often used differently in marketing, but the underlying process is the same.
What lyophilization does
A frozen product is placed under reduced pressure so ice can sublime. The process can create a porous dry cake or powder that is convenient for moisture-sensitive formats. Process parameters and formulation excipients influence the result.
Why two products can still differ
Two freeze-dried peptide products may have different peptide identity, concentration, excipients, residual moisture, closure integrity and reconstitution behavior. The label “lyophilized” alone does not establish equivalence.
Questions for suppliers
Ask for the composition, fill basis, residual moisture criterion, storage condition, container-closure information, reconstitution guidance for professional development and relevant batch documentation.
Buyer checklist
- Treat lyophilized and freeze-dried as process synonyms
- Compare specifications, not marketing terms
- Protect powder from moisture and uncontrolled temperature
- Review the full vial and closure system
